City
of Santa Monica Information.
Santa
Monica was founded in 1875 and become
an incorporated city in 1886. Up until
WW II, Santa Monica was a small beachside
community connected to distant Los
Angeles by the Red Trolley line. The
war and the subsequent years of commercial
development brought exceptional growth
as housing construction surged to
accommodate an amazing influx of people.
Despite decades of some of the most
intense concentration of commercial
and residential development, Santa
Monica remains today a beachside community
whose diverse residents strongly identify
with the neighborhoods and community
they live in.
